Amita Verma is an academically published Registered Speech-Language Pathologist with over ten years of experience as a clinician and over five years in mental health. She is credentialed in both Canada (SAC) and the United States (ASHA) and holds active College memberships across Canada (primary focus: BC, and AB).
Amita obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Speech Sciences in 2008 and a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology in 2011, both from the University of British Columbia. Since then, Amita has garnered a wealth of experience in hospital and clinic-based settings, providing family centred care for clients aged 0-16 years. She remains a highly sought-after clinician, working through a variety of private practices in B.C. and Alberta. Her assessment and intervention services include, but are not limited to, the following disorders: receptive and expressive language, fluency (stuttering), social/pragmatic language, speech/articulation, and phonological awareness (foundation of reading and writing skills).
In 2017, Amita developed expertise in providing virtual assessments and teletherapy across various online platforms. She was then recruited as a supervisor to manage and audit a team of Speech-language Pathologists training to providing virtual sessions. She has continued to advocate for a role for virtual therapy in contemporary SLP Practices.
In 2021, Amita was invited to speak at a virtual parenting expo on how to boost infant and toddler's language skills, where she lectured on evidence-based and research-backed techniques, strategies, and skills to primary caregivers.
In addition to the above, Amita is certified in Hanen: It Takes Two to Talk, Collaborative Problem Solving, Advanced Motivational Interviewing, Voice Craft, and Brain Story.
When she is not working, Amita is a busy mother of two toddlers and enjoys visiting the outdoors, traveling, reading, and baking.
